In their earliest forms, Sirens were not of the sea.
They were bird-women — not quite creatures, not quite spirits,
perched at the threshold between worlds ..
Some tellings place them in the orbit of Demeter,
granted wings in the aftermath of Persephone’s descent
either to search, or as punishment for their failure to intervene;
depending on who is retelling their story ..
Entrancing songs of forbidden knowledge
they carried forth, as messengers between sky and earth.
Sailors’ allure — the Sirens’ esoteric wisdom, their greatest seduction.
The perilous temptation of those craggy, sea-sprung hums;
grasping at treasures beyond the veil
where vastness and void are compressed into one ..
There remains a soft remembering at the edge of perception.
The Sirens' lingering call invites us to reclaim our wings —
to seek out pearls of wisdom hidden in plain sight,
to remember what we have collectively forgotten ..
The tides are shifting
and the currents are strengthening ..
